Labour's 2024 manifesto: Five bold missions to transform Britain

By Oscar Bentley, BBC Political Research Unit

Sir Keir Starmer has outlined the five missions he will put at the centre of his party's offer to voters at the next election in a speech.

The Labour leader said the country needs a "mission-driven government to end short-term sticking-plaster politics".

He said his five missions would "form the backbone" of Labour's manifesto, which will be released ahead of the next election.

The five missions are:

  1. To secure the highest sustained growth in the G7
  2. To make Britain a net zero carbon economy by 2030
  3. To build a society where "everyone has a fair chance to succeed"
  4. To make Britain the best place to grow up and grow old
  5. To make Britain a global leader in science, technology and innovation

Starmer said these missions would "transform Britain" and create a "fairer, more prosperous and more secure" country.

"We can't go on like this," he said. "We need a mission-driven government that will build a better future for all."

The Labour manifesto will be released in full ahead of the next election. The party is currently trailing the Conservatives in the polls, but Starmer will be hoping that his five missions can help to close the gap.
